Nicholas Vargelis
For this exhibition I will be showing a series of large format silkscreen prints taken from photographs. In transforming the image from a photo to a silkscreen, I am reducing the image to a more graphic statement, removing detail and focusing more on space, angles, and contrast.
In my work, I find myself repeatedly drawn towards urban environments that evoke a sense of past, particularly the early 20th century. . I tend to work with decaying structures and abandoned space that allow me to find the essence of the space, where the layers are revealed and the elements stripped down to essentials, approaching a hyper reality where the past and the future blur into one.

Nicholas Vargelis
Geboren 1979 in Boston, USA und zur Zeit in Kreuzberg, Berlin, wohnend arbeitet Nicholas als ein multidisziplinärer Künstler, dessen Arbeitsbereiche sich von Performance zu Bünhnenbild zu Fotografie spannen.
Mitwirkung im Bereich Lichttechnik für die darstellenden Künste hat er bei mehreren Produktionen in USA, Kanada und Europa. Nicholas hat sein Kunststudium mit einem Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design am Emerson College (Boston, USA, 2003) abgeschlossen.
Zur Zeit konzentriert sich Nicholas auf eine Einzelausstellung seiner Fotodokumentation von urbanem Verfall and vergessenen Räumen in der Open Space Galerie im Januar 2006.
